SARAH SACKVILLE

Sarah Sackville is a visual artist from Sussex, New Brunswick. After completing studies at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2001, she set off travelling ready to paint her inspiration. Her brush found expression in the lush temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest, the vibrant beach communities of the Caribbean, and historical cityscapes of Western Europe. With worldly eyes Sarah returned to Sussex in 2013 and discovered that her perception of her childhood home had been changed by her experiences abroad. Things that were once unremarkable now seemed unique and captivating. She currently paints local New Brunswick scenery, hoping to direct the viewer to the magic in day-to-day life. Sarah’s painterly style uses realism to anchor the spectator in the familiar. Skillfully using colour and light Sackville effectively blends the real and surreal, elevating the ordinary to the valued and beautiful.

"Hers is a rare painterly magic that can make such common, everyday scenes, which might easily be overlooked, resonate with something essentially true. More short stories than novels, Sackville’s gift lies in her deft manipulations of the grammars of hue, line, tone, and contrasts that gets to the heart of a subject."
